Recyclable Pringles Tubes in Tesco

More and more famous companies are taking steps to become carbon neutral in the nearest and further future. These days we can see how PepsiCo, Siemens, Procter & Gamble, and many others have already set ambitious milestones for CO2 reduction. Another great news on sustainability shows Pringles – the famous stackable potato-based chips producer.

What?

Recently it became evident that Pringles in collaboration with Tesco will replace the famous steel base for their primary packaging with a paper alternative. At the same time, the plastic lids will become recyclable.

Where and how much?

Right now this initiative will take place in the UK’s Tesco stores. As for the Pringles – Tesco collaboration, it is expected to sell roughly 48 million of the recyclable tubes in 2024 alone. Such a move is a result of an £86 million investment in packaging production. Moreover, it follows Pringles’ trials on this project during previous years.

What are the plans?

Pringles is planning to expand to other retailers by the end of 2024. Moreover, by 2025 all the packaging by Pringles will be recyclable, reusable, or compostable.

“We know people want to reduce their impact on the planet and it’s our responsibility to improve the recyclability of our packaging,” – says Kellanova UK MD Chris Silcock.

Why it’s important?

With more and more leading brands switching to recyclable packaging will bring the whole packaging system on sustainable trails. Hence, the changes for everyone in the segment are inevitable. This directly impacts Boost2Be’s customers, which allows us together to make further developing strategies more competitive in the changing world.
